Job of Research Scientist in Germany 2024 is open now. The Thuenen Institute for Climate Smart Agriculture, located in Germany, is overseeing the coordination of the PaludiZentrale project, which focuses on greenhouse gases, soils, hydrology, and data analysis. The main aim of this project and paludiculture, in general, is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They are currently looking for a full-time Scientist (f/m/d) to work on this joint research project, specifically sub-project 1, which involves coordinating the network, advising on model and demonstration projects, and conducting ecological and socio-economic analyses.
The M&D projects for “Peat soil protection including the use of renewable resources from paludiculture,” funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, are working on transforming drainage-based peatland agriculture into paludiculture. They aim to demonstrate the climate mitigation effects and other benefits of paludiculture. The “PaludiZentrale” project will provide support for the M&D projects and perform comprehensive data analysis.
The primary focus of this role is on measuring greenhouse gas exchange, including carbon dioxide and methane, using the eddy covariance method, as well as nitrous oxide at drained reference sites, which will be measured manually with chambers. The position holder will organize the working group “Greenhouse gases,” ensure consistency in measurement design and data processing, collect and quality-check data, and synthesize the data.
This position is based at the Thuenen Institute for Agricultural Climate Protection, focusing on peatlands and micrometeorology. The goal is to coordinate and advise on the M&D projects, harmonize measurement protocols and data, synthesize the data, develop guidelines for economically viable paludiculture practices, and facilitate their integration into regional value chains. Salary and employment conditions are in line with the collective agreement for the public service.
The Thuenen Institute encourages gender equality and inclusion and welcomes applications from individuals with disabilities, who will receive special consideration in the selection process.
