The Zimova Lab at Ohio University, Department of Biological Sciences, is seeking 1 to 2 PhD students to join our team in either spring or fall 2024. Those accepted into the program will receive a teaching assistantship with a minimum annual stipend of $23,000, plus a full tuition waiver. Additionally, when possible, students may secure a research assistantship with a minimum annual stipend of $26,000 along with a tuition waiver. Importantly, there’s no need for GRE scores for admission. All students will gain valuable field ecology and quantitative skills, and they’ll also develop specific skills aligned with their research interests. Our research is all about studying how climate change affects animals and finding out if they can adapt to it.
The Department of Biological Sciences at Ohio University has a diverse group of faculty and scientists. The university is situated in Athens, a small and budget-friendly college town in southeastern Ohio’s Appalachian foothills.
Students will collaborate with Dr. MarketaZimova on a project centered on the phenomenon of camouflage mismatch in animals that undergo seasonal molting, such as snowshoe hares and weasels. In this research, we bring together various methods and tools, including extensive field surveys, museum collections, detailed climate and environmental data, genetic analysis, and advanced statistical modeling.
